Newcastle United are believed to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer after it has become clear over the course of the season that they need someone who can find the back of the net on a consistent basis. Callum Wilson is the club’s top goal scorer of the current campaign till now and it is not like he has been prolific, scoring only 6 times. Although, it must be pointed out that he spent several months out of action due to injury.

On the other hand, Chris Wood was brought in from Burnley in January in a big move but he has struggled in front of goal as well, and not been able to solve many of the Magpies’ problems up top.

Thus, it would be no surprise if the club did end up going after another striker in the upcoming summer transfer window and they have been linked with some of the biggest names available like Darwin Nunez of Benfica and Victor Osimhen of Napoli.

But it is clear that they are spreading their net wide. As reported by i, they dispatched a senior member of staff to watch Nice striker, Amine Gouiri, who has been dubbed by many as the ‘new Karim Benzema’. He is one of the top young talents in Ligue 1 and has been linked with Real Madrid and Arsenal as well.

Gouiri has impressed this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in 42 appearances for Nice across all competitions in this campaign.

He is the second young French striker that Newcastle United have been linked with recently after Stade Reims’ Hugo Ekitike, who they are believed to have been close to signing in January.

Gouiri is rated at a transfer fee around £30 million. He has excellent technical ability and an eye for goal, and it is not hard to see why he is such highly rated by some of the top clubs in Europe.
