Newcastle United are expected to make a statement signing in the upcoming summer transfer window and they have been linked with quite a few big names in recent times. Paulo Dybala was rumoured to be a potential target, but he seems to be headed towards Inter Milan. On the other hand, Philippe Coutinho will be joining Aston Villa on a permanent basis.

Now, it looks like Newcastle United have turned their attention to another big name player in Atletico Madrid star, Yannick Carrasco.

The club were linked with a move for Carrasco in the past as well but nothing materialised back then. But now, it looks like the Magpies could be interested in the Atletico Madrid star once again with the summer transfer window around the corner.

As reported by GOAL, Newcastle United have made Carrasco their great goal for the summer and as soon as the season ends, they will try to sign him. The Magpies are considering negotiating with Atletico Madrid or potentially even matching his €60 million release clause.

Can Newcastle United sign Carrasco from Atletico Madrid in the summer?

Carrasco has already left Atletico Madrid in the past in favour of a big move to China but since then, he has returned to the club once again and established himself as an important part of Diego Simeone’s squad.

Carrasco has played at the highest of levels and has some huge experience. Thus, if Newcastle United are able to bring him to St James’ Park, it would be viewed as a major coup on the part of the Magpies.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made made 43 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season, scoring 6 goals and providing 7 assists.

Newcastle United have already signed one player from Atletico Madrid in the form of Kieran Trippier in recent times. Now, it remains to be seen if they can repeat the trick once again and reunite the English international with Carrasco.
