Newcastle United battle Arsenal for Manchester City star
Following the change in ownership, it is safe to say that the calibre of players that Newcastle United are targeting in the transfer market has gone up drastically. As a result, they often find themselves in race with several of Europe’s top clubs for the signature of those that the Magpies want to bring to St James’ Park.
It was just in January that they are believed to have beaten Arsenal to the signature of Bruno Guimaraes. And it was the Brazilian who scored against Mikel Arteta’s side to leave their hopes of Champions League qualification hanging by a thread.
Now, it looks like Newcastle United and Arsenal could be involved in a transfer race for another Brazilian star, although this time around, there are several other clubs around Europe involved as well.
As reported by CalcioMercato, Arsenal are leading the race for Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus. But the likes of Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are also believed to be interested in signing the Brazilian striker.

Manchester City are set to sign Erling Haaland in the summer which has naturally raised questions about Jesus’ place at the club as it is expected that his playing time will be reduced significantly following the arrival of the Norwegian superstar.
Thus, it would not be a major surprise to see him leave Pep Guardiola’s side when the summer transfer window opens.
Jesus has had a pretty decent time at Manchester City since joining the club in 2017 although many would argue that he has not reached the level that he was expected to.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jesus has scored 95 goals and provided 46 assists in 235 appearances for Manchester City till now.
Thus, if Newcastle United were able to sign him, it would be a major coup but there is a lot of interest in Jesus’ signature and it would be very difficult to pull off.
