Newcastle United need to sign another striker in the summer. It has become very clear through the course of the season that they do not have a player who can find the back of the net on a consistent enough basis to put up a challenge against the Big Six. Callum Wilson is the club’s highest goal scorer of the campaign but only has 6 goals to his name. Chris Wood has struggled since arriving from Burnley in a big deal in January.

Thus, a goalscorer has to be on the top of Eddie Howe’s summer wishlist and they have been linked with some very exciting names over the past several weeks.

Darwin Nunez, who has been fantastic this season for Benfica, seems to be a player they have their eyes on. The name of Victor Osimhen has also floated around in the rumour mill. And Hugo Ekitike seems to be on their radar as well.

Now, as reported by i, Newcastle United have watched Chelsea’s Armando Broja, who is currently on loan at Southampton.

Newcastle United have watched Chelsea’s Broja

Broja has been one of the standout young strikers in the Premier League this season. Even though Southampton have not had the best of campaigns, he is someone who has managed to make an impression.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Broja has scored 9 goals for Southampton this season. While his numbers might not be the most glittering, his performances have certainly shown a player capable of dealing with even the best of defences on his day.

Many believe that Broja has the potential to be a future starter for Chelsea up top, who have not had the greatest of records when it comes to strikers in recent times. Can Newcastle United swoop in and sign the Albanian international before he gets the chance to show whether he is good enough to lead the line for The Blues?

Broja is also just 20 years of age and would be expected to get much better as he gains more experience.
