Newcastle United have been linked with a series of goalkeepers in recent weeks and months, in what has been a bit of a surprise when you consider the form that Martin Dubravka has been in. But it appears that the Magpies feel that they can improve in that area or at the very least, provide some competition for the starting spot.

As a result, a number of high-profile names have been mentioned like Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson. And now, it appears that another name has been added to that quickly growing list.

Leicester City have not enjoyed the season that they would have hoped for, especially after winning the FA Cup last time around, and the Community Shield at the start of this one. Brendan Rodgers’ side have taken a definite step back although injuries have played a key part in that as well. The Foxes are expected to undergo a squad transformation in the summer though.

As reported by talkSPORT, Newcastle United are keen to sign a new number one and are tracking Kasper Schmeichel’s situation. The Leicester City captain is expected to hold talks with the club’s management once the season comes to an end. It is believed that he would be open to a move abroad as well.

Newcastle United are tracking the situation of Schmeichel at Leicester City

Schmeichel has been one of the best goalkeepers in England and in all of Europe for quite some time now, and time and again, has made the difference for Leicester City for several years.

But at the same time, one also has to consider the fact that he is 35 years of age and as a result, would not be a long-term solution between the posts for Newcastle United by any stretch of the imagination.

Thus, it remains to be seen if the club do indeed end up pursuing a move for Schmeichel. But considering all the factors, even though the Danish international is the better keeper right now, the likes of Kepa and Henderson would be better long-term options.
