A new striker has to be near the top of the summer transfer wishlist for Newcastle United. Callum Wilson is their highest scorer of the ongoing season till now and he spent more than four months out of action with injury. Before his stint on the sidelines, he was not particularly prolific with, having scored only 6 goals this season.

When the club signed Chris Wood from Burnley for a £25 million transfer fee in January, there were hopes that he would turn out to be a consistent goalscorer for them. That has not turned out to be the case either.

Thus, with neither Wilson nor Wood scoring on a consistent basis, it would not be much of a surprise if Newcastle United brought in another striker in the summer and have been linked with several high profile names in that regard.

As reported by CalcioMercato, Newcastle United want a great centre-forward as they aim to qualify for Europe next season and the name of Victor Osimhen is at the very top of the list. A contract with Napoli is expected to understand if a deal is feasible. The Italian club are believed to be ready to listen to transfer offers over €100 million.

Newcastle United expected to make contact for Osimhen

Osimhen is one of the most highly rated strikers in all of Europe now and if Newcastle United are able to sign him, it would be an incredible coup on the part of the club.

He is one of the biggest reasons why Napoli have clinched a Champions League spot for next season and were in the title race for a long period of time, before AC Milan and Inter Milan pulled ahead over the past few weeks.

Osimhen has everything that you need to be one of the top strikers in the game and at 23 years of age, one would expect him to get even better moving forward.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 6 assists in 30 appearances this season. Having played 2202 minutes in total, he is averaging a goal contribution every 96 minutes or so!
