Newcastle United are expected to be on the lookout for a striker this summer. That is viewed as an area of weakness in Eddie Howe’s squad at this point of time. Callum Wilson is the club’s top scorer this season despite spending more than four months out on the sidelines and even he has just six goals to his name.

On the other hand, Chris Wood had arrived with huge expectations on his shoulders in January in a £25 million transfer move from Burnley but has failed to deliver the goods since then.

Thus, it would not be much of a surprise if the club tried to sign a striker when the transfer window reopens. They have been linked with some of the biggest names in Europe right now like Darwin Nunez and Victor Osimhen. But it looks like they have an Arsenal youngster on their radar as well.

Eddie Nketiah has not received a lot of chances for Arsenal this season but over the last few weeks, he has shown what he is capable of. His current contract is set to run out in the summer though. As reported by the Mirror, Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in the young striker. Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also believed to hold an interest while there are two unnamed foreign clubs in the race for his signature too.

Nketiah holds all the cards right now and it remains to be seen what he decides to do with his future moving forward.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 24 appearances for Arsenal this season but played just 993 minutes. Yet, he has scored 9 goals and provided an assist as well.

Thus, Nketiah is a player who delivers more often than not and if Newcastle United are able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup. But at the same time, the race for the striker is going to be very tough to win. There are a number of clubs interested and one cannot rule out his chances of staying on at Arsenal either.
