Newcastle United have been linked with a series of strikers in recent days as it is pretty clear that the Magpies need to sign a consistent goal scorer when the summer transfer window opens. Thus, names like Darwin Nunez, Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike, Eddie Nketiah, Dominic Solanke and several others have been doing the rounds of the rumour mill.

All of those could prove to be excellent signings for Eddie Howe’s side but at the same time, none of them have much experience of delivering at the highest level in the Premier League or in Europe.

Newcastle United have been linked with one such player in the form of Liverpool’s Divock Origi. The Belgian has been with the Reds since 2014 and has been unlucky to not play more regularly, as Jurgen Klopp has one of the all-time greatest attacks in the history of the game to pick from at the moment.

But one could argue that nobody at Liverpool has delivered the goods in the big moments, when called upon, more often than Origi has in recent years. The Belgian is just someone who appears to rise to the occasion and find the back of the next on the biggest of stages.

Origi has rejected move to Newcastle United and looks set to join AC Milan

Thus, it is not hard to see why Newcastle United were linked with a move for Origi, whose current deal with Liverpool runs out in the summer and he is expected to become a free agent.

And as reported by CalcioMercato, Origi has said ‘no’ to offers, including from Newcastle United, because he gave his word to Paolo Maldini. The Belgian is expected to join AC Milan next season.

Even if Newcastle United did not view Origi as the man to lead the line in every game, it is hard to find players with his ability to come up with goals in the big moments. Thus, losing out on the chance to sign him would be a blow for the Magpies.
