Newcastle United are favourites to sign £30 million striker
A new striker might very well be on top of Newcastle United’s wish list in the upcoming summer transfer window. One of the key things that is missing in Eddie Howe’s team right now is the presence of a consistent goalscorer. Callum Wilson has been out injured since December but remains their highest goal scorer for the campaign with just 6 goals.
On the other hand, Chris Wood was signed in a £25 million transfer deal from Burnley in January but has struggled to find the back of the net since then.
As a result, do not be surprised if the club end up going after another striker in the upcoming summer transfer window and they have been linked with quite a few interesting names.
One of them is that of Stade Reims’ 19-year-old striker, Hugo Ekitike, who has enjoyed a breakout season for the Ligue 1 club. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 10 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions for the French club in this campaign.
Newcastle United are favourites to sign £30 million striker
It looks like Newcastle United have a pretty good chance of signing the youngster this summer. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, journalist Pete O’Rourke said:
"“Newcastle were very close to signing him in the January transfer window and they still remain very keen on the teenager, so you would probably say that Newcastle are favourites for him right now.”"
It is not going to be easy to win the race for Ekitike though as some huge clubs are believed to be interested in him as well. The biggest of them are perhaps Borussia Dortmund, who are rumoured to view him as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland, who is expected to leave in the summer.
Ekitike is certainly one of the most exciting young talents in all of Europe right now and appears to have been on Howe’s radar for a while as well. Thus, if Newcastle United are able to get a deal for him over the line, it would be considered as a major coup on their part and could potentially solve their problems up top for years to come.
