Newcastle United are expected to strengthen all over the pitch in the summer as they look to continue their climb up the Premier League ladder. And the first position that they should look to bring reinforcements in is striker. At the moment, Eddie Howe’s side are lacking a reliable goalscorer despite their brilliant run of form since the turn of the year.

Callum Wilson has been out of action since the turn of the year but remains their top goal scorer this season. But that does not mean that he was prolific either and only has 6 goals to his name. On the other hand, Chris Wood was signed in a huge move from Burnley in January but has struggled massively to put the ball in the back of the net.

As a result, it is safe to say that Newcastle United could do with another striker at the moment and have been rumoured with a potential interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Toney shattered records in the Championship last season and has done very well in the top flight as well, as The Bees look likely to beat the drop. But despite that, Newcastle United have been sent a warning about any potential move for the striker.

Dean Jones believes that there deals out there that represent better value than the one for Toney, who Brentford are expected to ask a transfer fee over £30 million for. As reported by GiveMeSport, the journalist said:

"“They’re interested in him. But they’ve got to be aware of financial fair play, and there is better value to be had out there than that deal. So, they are interested in him, but they’re also going to have to tread carefully.”"

It must be said though that a transfer fee around £30 million to sign Toney does sound pretty reasonable in the current transfer market.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 33 appearances this season across all competitions. It must also be remembered that this was his first season as a regular in the Premier League.

Interestingly, while it was not a memorable run, Toney was actually a Newcastle United player a few years back.
