Newcastle United receive Kalvin Phillips transfer boost

With their place in the Premier League next season secured and as we approach the summer transfer window, Newcastle United are being linked with one player after the other in recent days as the club are expected to splash out. They have already strengthened Eddie Howe’s squad significantly but are not expected to stop there.

And neither should they, as Howe has already shown that he deserves to be backed in the summer and could potentially lead this side to special things.

When Howe arrived as the manager of Newcastle United, they seemed destined to be relegated and just beating the drop would have been viewed as a big achievement. Instead, the Englishman has guided them to the top half of the Premier League table in one of the most remarkable turnarounds in football history.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Kalvin Phillips is someone whose situation Newcastle United are monitoring. Leeds United will listen to offers for him if they are unable to agree a new deal with the midfielder. And on top of that, the England international will reject any move to Manchester United out of loyalty to The Peacocks.

It is safe to say that this is a double boost for Newcastle United. Not only do Leeds United seem to be open to letting Phillips leave but at the same time, it appears that the player has no intention of joining Manchester United, reducing the competition for his signature.

The Red Devils have been linked with Phillips for a long time now without anything materialising. And it does not look like it will either, with the player being born in Leeds, having come through the youth ranks at Leeds United and spent his entire senior career there till now. Thus, it is not hard to understand why he might be reluctant to join Manchester United.

But that does not mean that it would be easy for Newcastle United to sign him as it is believed he is rated at a transfer fee around £60 million.
