Newcastle United are a team the eyes of the footballing world will be on this summer as there is a lot of intrigue about how The Magpies will go about their transfer business following the change in ownership. The club have already shown their intent, by splashing out around £90 million on transfer fees in January and we have seen them reap the rewards of that, as only Liverpool have earned more points than them in the Premier League this year.

One would expect Newcastle United to splash out once again when the transfer window reopens and strengthen their squad further.

Thus, expect to see quite a few new faces arriving at St James’ Park in a few months time but one the fans are already familiar with is also expected to make his stay permanent, that being Matt Targett.

Targett arrived at Newcastle United on loan from Aston Villa on loan till the end of the season in January and has proven to be a massive hit at St James’ Park. It is believed that a transfer fee around £15 million would be enough to sign him on a permanent basis, and it appears that Eddie Howe and the recruitment team have made their decision surrounding his future.

Howe has made decision about Targett’s Newcastle United future

As reported by GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Dean Jones said about the situation:

"“Newcastle were always open-minded about it. They weren’t sure whether they would want him long-term or not.“From what I’m told, Eddie Howe has now decided, along with the recruitment team, that this is a good addition to this team.”"

Thus, it looks like the club were not completely certainly that they wanted Targett for the long-term when he was brought in on loan, but following his performances since joining Newcastle United, it would be a major mistake on the part of the club if they did not sign him on a permanent basis.

Targett has simply been superb and although the club could go on and sign a different left-back this summer, perhaps a bigger name, there would be an element of risk involved with such a move and there will be questions whether he could get it done at St James’ Park. The Aston Villa loanee has already shown that he can.
