Newcastle United eyeing move for Bundesliga centre-back
We saw Newcastle United focus on strengthening at the back in the January transfer window by signing Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett, and we have seen Eddie Howe’s side reap the rewards of that approach since the turn of the year. The Magpies have improved immensely in defence and have become one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League in recent weeks and months as a result of it.
Now though, it looks like Howe could still be looking to bring in further reinforcements in defence as one would expect Newcastle United to improve their squad further in the summer, as the club’s aim must be to ultimately compete with the Big Six of the Premier League.
As reported by Chronicle Live, sources close to Eintracht Frankfurt defender, Evan Ndicka, have stated that there is interest from Newcastle United in the centre-back.
Ndicka has played a massive part in the German club’s run to the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League. His current deal with the club runs out in the summer of 2023 though and it is believed that he could be available for a transfer fee around £23 million.
Newcastle United interested in move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ndicka
Ndicka is a physical presence at the back for Eintracht Frankfurt and at 22 years of age, one would expect the French youth international to get even better with time as he gains more experience. He has already showcased his tremendous potential in Germany as well as the European level.
While Newcastle United would be targeting him for his defensive abilities, one cannot overlook his contributions going forward either. According to Transfermarkt, Ndicka has scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in 39 appearances this season across all competitions. That is a great output for a centre-back.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle United do indeed end up making a move for Ndicka, but if they are able to sign the French centre-back, it would be considered as a major coup on the part of The Magpies and further strengthen their backline.
