With Newcastle United set to stay up in the Premier League and as we approach the summer transfer window, the rumours around the club are showing no signs of stopping as it looks like they might be set for a huge squad transformation. The Magpies have been linked with one player after the other over the course of the past several weeks.

It is not hard to understand why either. While they have made tremendous progress under the management of Eddie Howe, the club must improve the squad further so that they can continue their rise up the Premier League ladder and hopefully compete for a top six spot next season.

Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma will travel to Leicester City this midweek to take on them in first leg of the UEFA Conference League semi-final. And it looks like Newcastle United will have a keen eye on one of the Italian club’s players.

As reported by CalcioMercato (via TEAMtalk), Nicolo Zaniolo is likely to start for AS Roma against Leicester City and three English clubs will be monitoring his performance. They are Newcastle United, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United will reportedly be scouting AS Roma’s Zaniolo

Not too long ago, Zaniolo was considered as the next big thing in Italian football. But some major injuries meant that his development suffered a setback and he did not make a single appearance last season.

He is now back though and while nowhere near his best, he is taking massive steps in the right direction to getting back to that level and even scored a hattrick in the previous round to book AS Roma’s place in the semi-final of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The potential and talent that Zaniolo has is unquestionable. What remains to be seen is whether he can fulfil those, after the kind of injuries that he has already had to deal with despite being just 22 years of age.

Could we see Zaniolo in the shirt of Newcastle United soon? It feels like a lot could depend on his performance against Leicester City.
