Newcastle United have been nothing short of exceptional since the turn of the year and have climbed up to ninth in the Premier League table. And if they can continue performing like this, while also strengthening their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window, The Magpies could potentially end up challenging for a top six spot next season.

While those might be lofty expectations from a team that had looked set to be relegated just a few months back, that is just how good they have been under the management of Eddie Howe.

One of the teams that Newcastle United could end up competing with next season is Tottenham Hotspur, who themselves have improved a lot since the arrival of Antonio Conte as manager in the middle of the season, and are chasing a top four spot.

As reported by the Mirror, Newcastle United are planning a £30 million summer transfer move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. While the midfielder has been a mainstay in Conte’s side, the Italian is planning a shake up of his squad as well and he could be one of the players allowed to move on.

If Newcastle United are able to sign a player with the quality of Hojbjerg, it would be considered as a major coup on their part without a shadow of a doubt.

He has been one of Tottenham Hotspur’s better players this season and it is a bit of a surprise that Conte might be willing to let him leave in a summer rebuild.

It remains to be seen how things transpire over the coming weeks and months, but it must be said that if Newcastle United are indeed targeting players with the quality of Hojbjerg, they are certainly moving in the right direction.

It would not be easy to sign him though because if the Danish international did leave, several clubs are expected to be interested.
