Newcastle United have been in terrific form since the turn of the year. While The Magpies seemed destined for relegation at one point of time, they have now managed to climb up to 9th in the Premier League table and a finish in the top half cannot be ruled out. If they are able to pull it off, it would be an incredible achievement.

They have a difficult run in of games moving forward though. Only one team has picked up more points than Newcastle United this year -Liverpool. And the two are set to meet next, at St James’ Park.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are making a run for the Premier League title and have been in stunning form. The fact that they are still in the running for a Quadruple just goes on to show how special The Reds are right now.

Thus, Newcastle United will have to be at the top of their games to get anything out of the match. They have several key players missing due to injury at the moment and as reported by The Shields Gazette, when asked whether anybody would be back for the Liverpool game, Eddie Howe said:

"“Not sure as we speak.“I’d probably say no off the top of my head, but we’ll wait and see.”"

While Howe did not completely rule out the possibility of players returning for the match against Liverpool, it does feel unlikely.

As things stand, Newcastle United are without key players like Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and others, but have been able to navigate through their problems pretty well till now.

The game against Liverpool might their toughest test of the season till now though. But on current form, it would be wrong to completely rule out Newcastle United either, although they are definitely going in as the underdogs. The home advantage could potentially prove to be vital.
