As reported by i, Newcastle United are close to a deal for Matt Targett and have the framework of it agreed. The full-back is currently at St James’ Park on loan from Aston Villa.

Targett arrived on loan from Aston Villa in January and he has made quite an impression since then, establishing himself in Howe’s first-team picture.

It is believed that it would take a transfer fee around £15 million to sign him on a permanent basis from Aston Villa and to be honest, that should be a no brainer for Newcastle United at this point of time.

While they can go out and sign a different left-back in the summer, there would be an element of risk involved in that. On the other hand, Targett has already proven himself at Newcastle United and shown exactly where he fits into this team.
