Just a short few months back, Newcastle United were one of the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League this season. But since the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager and some pretty good signings in the January transfer window, the club have completed a turnaround that not even their most optimistic fans could have predicted.

Following their win over Crystal Palace, Newcastle United have now risen up to 11th in the Premier League table and have 40 points in the bag.

And not only have they crossed the 40-point mark, which is considered by many as the traditional safety zone to stay up in the Premier League, but now, they are also closer to an European qualification spot than they are to the relegation zone.

That is an incredible turnaround when you sit back and think about it. This was a side that was fighting to stay up just a month or so back, and now, a finish in the top half of the Premier League table is within touching distance.

Howe deserves the world of credit for the job that he has done since coming in as do the players, who have stepped up to the plate when it perhaps would have been easier to give up.

It feels like Howe is building something special at St James’ Park and even this current unit looks to be good enough to be a top 8 team in the Premier League and if they are able to make some smart signings in the summer, do not be surprised to see them competing to finish in the top six from the very next campaign.

This just goes on to show how quickly things can change in football and fortunately for Newcastle United, they have changed for the better. Now though, the goal has to be to build on this and take the club to the next level. Howe looks like the perfect man to guide them on that path.
