Bruno Guimaraes is the most expensive signing in the history of Newcastle United. And he showed a glimpse of why that is the case in the recent game against Leicester City by scoring a brace, including a 95th minute winner, for the Magpies. It is starting to look like he is the kind of player that Eddie Howe can build his midfield around for the future.

The club are expected to make further additions to their squad over the coming transfer windows though and now that it looks like they have managed to avoid relegation, expect to see The Magpies splash out in the summer transfer window.

The way that Newcastle United have been playing since the turn of the year, they already look like a top 8 team. And with a little bit more strengthening, they could even put up a challenge for a top 6 spot. That would be quite something considering a few months back, they seemed destined for the drop.

As reported by Chronicle Live, while speaking to the club programme recently, Guimaraes was asked who he would like to see at Newcastle United and he said:

"“Ah, Lucas Paqueta. He is my brother, my best friend and I really get on with him.“We have the same way of thinking, we are the same age and we were together every day – always talking to each other. He is a family member that football has given me.”"

Guimaraes wants Paqueta at Newcastle United

Incidentally, Paqueta has been linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent times although it is believed that it would take a transfer fee around £58 million to sign him from Lyon.

It is hard to see The Magpies splashing out that kind of a figure in the upcoming transfer window but then, you never know in football.

Paqueta has been excellent for Lyon since joining the French club and is a regular in the Brazilian national team picture as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 10 goals and provided 6 assists this season.

Thus, if Newcastle United were able to sign him and reunite him with Guimaraes in midfield, it would be considered as a major coup on the part of the club.
