Jonjo Shelvey has become an integral part of Newcastle United over the years and even captained the side on numerous occasions. He arrived at St James’ Park in 2016 and now at 30 years of age, it will be very interesting to see what the future holds for him. It is pretty clear though that he wants to remain at the club.

Shelvey’s current deal with Newcastle United runs out in the summer of 2023. He has remained a key part of the starting XI even after the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager though and thus, it would not be a surprise if the club decide to hand him a new deal soon.

Since the change in ownership at Newcastle United, hopes have been that the club would see a massive rise up the Premier League table over the coming years and eventually become a top European club.

Shelvey seems completely onboard with that idea, even comparing the club’s future with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. As reported by Chronicle Live, the long-time Newcastle United star told Sky Sports:

"“This club will be massive. I’m talking PSG and Man City massive. It’ll take time, and it’s a building process, but Newcastle can go to the top. We just all need to be patient. All I want is to be a part of the process.”"

It goes without saying that those are lofty goals but at the same time, they are quite attainable in the modern game. Just see where the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were before their respective changes in ownership.

It will be very interesting to see what the journey looks like for Newcastle United. The club have already shown their intent by splashing out around £90 million in transfer fees in January and are expected to continue in that path in the summer as well.

Thus, the future does look very bright for Newcastle United to say the least. Now, let’s see if Shelvey continues to be a part of it.
