Matt Targett drops huge hint on Newcastle United future
Newcastle United have done a pretty good job when it comes to signing players since the appointment of Eddie Howe as manager. We saw against Leicester City, how special Bruno Guimaraes can be on his day. And it is not just the club’s record signing who has made an impact since arriving at St James’ Park in January. One player who has become an integral part of this team is Matt Targett.
Targett arrived on loan from Aston Villa in January, after the club signed Lucas Digne. And he has been excellent since then.
Thus, Newcastle United fans would surely be hoping that the club are able to sign him on a permanent basis and it is believed that a £15 million transfer fee would be enough to do that.
When asked about his future, Targett admitted that he was enjoying his time at Newcastle United and hoped that something could be sorted out. As reported by Chronical Live, the left-back on loan from Aston Villa said:
"“I’m sure and hope they can sort something out for me. For sure it (decision time) is coming closer so at the moment I am really enjoying my time here and loving playing in front of the Geordie fans here.”"
Can Newcastle United sign Targett from Aston Villa on a permanent basis?
Signing Targett on a permanent basis from Aston Villa surely has to be near the top of the wishlist for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
He has been very good since coming in and has been a key reason behind The Magpies’ upturn in form. And signing him would be much better than going out and taking a risk on a different left-back.
If the club are able to sign Targett on a permanent basis then the left-back position would be sorted and Newcastle United can concentrate on bringing in other players.
The club might have taken a lot of strides in recent times but there is a lot more work to be done if they are to compete with the Big Six in the future on a consistent basis. Interestingly, they are in the running to finish in the top half of the Premier League table this season, which would have been absolutely unthinkable a few months back when they were fighting relegation. Now, the challenge is to not only keep up this momentum but also improve.
