Within the course of a few months, Newcastle United have gone from a club looking destined for relegation to one that could finish the season in the top half of the Premier League table if they are able to finish the campaign strong. That’s how quickly things can change in football. And with the change in ownership, one would expect The Magpies to push on and reach new heights in the future.

For that to happen, they must strengthen the squad though. And they have already shown their intent in that regard by splashing out around £90 million in transfer fees in January.

Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood were the four players who were signed while Matt Targett arrived on loan from Aston Villa till the end of the season. And the overall impact that their arrivals have had has been a positive. Interestingly though, there’s one former Newcastle United player who seems to have had his eye on a return to St James’ Park in January as well.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Ayoze Perez was open to a sensational return to Newcastle United in the mid-season window if the opportunity presented itself.

Perez was open to Newcastle United return in January

Perez had left Newcastle United in the summer of 2019 after being a key player at St James’ Park for years in order to join Leicester City.

It would not be wrong to say that the Spaniard has had a mixed time at Leicester City. While he has won silverware, been part of a team pushing for the top four and played in Europe, he has also struggled for playing time recently. He is still 28 years of age though and in the middle of his prime as a footballer.

And as a result, it looks like he might be looking for a way out of the club in the near future. But when it comes to the matter of a return to Newcastle United, one has to question, does Perez fit into Eddie Howe’s team?
