Newcastle United and Leicester City played out a thrilling game of football at St James’ Park. The Foxes took the lead early on but The Magpies would equalise at the half hour mark through Bruno Guimaraes. Then, it looked like the game was headed for a 1-1 draw before the Brazilian would crop up with a second goal in the 5th minute of added time to hand Eddie Howe’s side a 2-1 win and all three points.

This just goes on to show the progress that Newcastle United have made over the past few months under the management of Howe, getting a win against Leicester City, who have finished at 5th in the previous two seasons and also won the FA Cup and Community Shield.

Thus, it was a massive win for Newcastle United. And don’t say it out loud, but The Magpies might be safe from relegation now.

Following the game, Brendan Rodgers sent a very classy message about Newcastle United as a club, their fans, the manager and what might await them in the future. As reported by Newcastle World, the Leicester City manager said in his post-match press conference:

"“I’m so happy for the people here and the supporters.“You get a great feeling every time you come here. It’s one of the cities and grounds I really enjoy coming to. It’s great for the supporters because the passion here is incredible.“Eddie’s come in and made a very good start and made some really good signings. I think that gives great hope to the supporters. I’m pretty sure they’ll look to build on that in the summer.“This is one of the incoming football clubs in Britain. It’s a special place.“Great atmosphere in the game, we’re just disappointed with the result but we say congratulations to Newcastle.”"

Rodgers makes classy Newcastle United claim after Leicester City suffer defeat

It is great to hear such classy comments from Rodgers, and we can also only wish him the best of luck moving forward. Leicester City currently sit at 9th in the Premier League table and although they won’t be matching the heights of the past couple of seasons, they still seem set for a solid top 10 finish in the Premier League.

On the other hand, Newcastle United appear to have a chance of finishing in the top half of the table as well.

As things stand, only three points separate them and 10th placed Brighton & Hove Albion, with both having played 32 games each till now. Thus, if Newcastle United can finish the season strong, there is every chance in the world that they might finish in the top 10, which is remarkable considering they appeared relegation bound not too long ago.
