Newcastle United make €60 million offer for striker
Newcastle United could look to strengthen all over the pitch in the upcoming summer transfer window and one area that definitely does need a bit of strengthening is their forward line. The Magpies’ biggest weakness at this point of time might very well be the lack of a striker who can find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
Callum Wilson is their highest goal scorer this season and he has been out of action since December. And even he was not the most prolific before ending up on the sidelines. On the other hand, Chris Wood was signed from Burnley in January for a transfer fee around £25 million but he has had a tough time leading the line for The Magpies.
Thus, it would not be a massive surprise if Newcastle United did go out and try to sign a striker when the transfer window reopens and it looks like they have set their sights on Darwin Nunez.
As reported by Foot Mercato, Newcastle United have offered a transfer fee of more than €60 million for Nunez. The Benfica striker is one of the most in-demand players in the world right now and has been linked with some of the top clubs in Europe.
Newcastle United have made huge offer for Nunez
Nunez has been an absolute standout this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 32 goals in 37 appearances for Benfica this season. And he has scored against some of the biggest clubs in the world – Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool.
Thus, there is no question about the incredible potential that Nunez has and it is no surprise that several top clubs are being linked with him.
It is expected to be very difficult for Newcastle United to sign him though, as they cannot offer him Champions League football. And on top of that, any move is expected to take a transfer fee around €80 million.
Newcastle United must definitely put their hat in the ring though in the transfer race for Nunez and if they are somehow able to sign the 22-year-old Uruguayan international, it would be a statement of intent, on the part of The Magpies.
