Newcastle United deserve a lot of credit for how well they have done in recent weeks, especially with the number of injury problems that they have had to deal with. The Magpies have been missing several key players, yet they have been one of the most in-form teams in the entire Premier League since the turn of the year.

Two players who have been out for months by this point of time are Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier.

Wilson is Newcastle United’s top scorer this season till now despite the fact that he has been out of action since December. On the other hand, the club signed Trippier from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window but the full-back was injured the following month and has been out on the sidelines since then.

Howe has provided a positive update surrounding both of them though and it looks like they are progressing well. As reported by Newcastle World, the manager said about Trippier:

"“Kieran, I think, is very slightly ahead of schedule.“He’s beginning to run back on the grass with his boots on, so that’s a great sign for us.“He’s still got to build up his fitness and everything that comes with that but he’s in a good place.”"

On the other hand, speaking about Wilson, Howe said:

"“Callum’s the same.“Callum is hitting balls towards the goal, no goalkeeper in at the moment, only mannequins!“But he’s gradually building up to where he wants to be which is great to see.“Personally, they’re OK because they’re both in a good place. They’re both improving in line with probably what we expected.”"

Exciting Newcastle United injury update on Trippier and Wilson

It goes without saying that both Trippier and Wilson are key players of this team and having them back available would be a major boost for The Magpies.

It will be interesting to see if they are able to return before the end of the season. Even though Howe was not ready to provide any timeline or date for their respective returns, his comments sound positive enough to suggest that we will get to see the duo in action in the not too distant future.

It must be said though that Newcastle United have been able to do quite well even in their absence. Thus, it will be very interesting to see the kind of impact that they make on the first-team upon returning.
