What are Newcastle United’s targets in the summer transfer window?
Newcastle United could definitely do with some reinforcements all over the pitch. Even though the side have made tremendous progress over the course of the past few months and have been one of the most in-form teams in all of Europe, there are certainly areas where they have to improve in if they are to compete with the elite teams in the Premier League. Of course, it will not be an overnight process, but next summer would be a brilliant time to start transforming The Magpies into a team that can compete with the Big Six on a consistent basis in the future.
The biggest area of worry for this Newcastle United team is at striker. Callum Wilson is their top scorer right now and he has been out injured since December. And even he was not the most prolific in front of goal. On the other hand, the club did sign Chris Wood in the January transfer window from Burnley but he has failed to make an impact since arriving at St James’ Park.
Thus, The Magpies could definitely do with another striker and they have been linked with some huge names in recent times like Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and it will be interesting to see if the club can pull off a signing of that magnitude. They do need someone who can score on a consistent basis though.
But striker is not the only position that Newcastle United are believed to be interested in making a move though. They have been linked with some high-profile goalkeepers in the form of Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga. Thus, that is a position that they might be looking to add someone as well, despite Martin Dubravka’s decent form in goal.
Which positions could Newcastle United be looking to add players in?
Of course, there are several more positions that Newcastle United could potentially be looking to strengthen in. They have been linked with a series of wingers recently as well, as Allan Saint-Maximin has been linked with an exit.
But judging from some of Eddie Howe’s recent comments, it does not feel like The Magpies are looking to part ways with the French talisman in the summer. That does not mean that they do not need another option on the wings though.
Also, there have been longstanding rumours about the club looking to sign another centre-back despite the success that Dan Burn has enjoyed since arriving at St James’ Park. Sven Botman is someone who has been on their radar for a long time.
It remains to be seen how things turn out but it is safe to say that the summer transfer window could be an exciting time for Newcastle United fans.
