Newcastle United are expected to make a splash in the summer transfer window and strengthen their squad significantly. Since the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager, the club have made undeniable progress but it is unquestionable that there are a lot of areas that they still need to improve in, if they are to compete with the elite clubs in the Premier League on a consistent basis.

Thus, the club have been linked with some big names over the course of the past few months like Darwin Nunez, Victor Osimhen, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Dean Henderson, Sven Botman and others.

But it looks like their first signing of the upcoming summer transfer window could be a 17-year-old Irish youngster, who has been making a name for himself at Galway United.

As reported by RTE, Newcastle United are set to sign Galway United’s Alex Murphy. The youngster will move to England in the summer when he turns 18 years of age. There was significant competition for his signature as well, as clubs like Celtic, Brighton & Hove Albion, Torino and others were linked with the defender.

Newcastle United handed boost as they look to have beat Celtic and Brighton to youngster

It goes without saying that this is a boost for The Magpies. Of course, the club will need to strengthen their first-team squad, but at the same time, they must also make sure that their future is in the best shape possible at the same time as well.

It goes without saying that Murphy is very highly rated judging from the clubs he has been linked with and if the move does indeed end up happening then there will be high hopes from him at St James’ Park.

Of course, the youngster is not someone who will come in and immediately make an impact in Howe’s first-team picture, but he has shown enough  promise to suggest that he is one to keep an eye on for the future.
