Newcastle United are expected to have some big plans for the summer, with it looking likely that they will stay up in the Premier League, after their 1-0 win over Wolves at the weekend. And it is very possible that The Magpies could try to pull off a few free transfers. Could they potentially be handed a blow by Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in that respect though?

One player that Newcastle United have been linked with for quite some time is Jesse Lingard an The Magpies are believed to have come close to signing the Manchester United star in January, but the club could not agree terms over a loan deal with the Red Devils.

Lingard’s current deal with Manchester United runs out in the summer and he is expected to leave with him struggling for playing time at Old Trafford. Thus, it would not be a shock to see Newcastle United reignite their interest in the English international.

But as reported by the Mirror, Lingard is tempted by the idea of a reunion with Mourinho at AS Roma. AC Milan and Juventus are believed to be interested as well.

Could Lingard pull off reunion with Mourinho at AS Roma

A move to Italy can be a smart decision on the part of Lingard. For instance, just see how Chris Smalling has revived his career at AS Roma or how Tammy Abraham has taken his game to a completely different level.

Of course, there is expected to be interest from teams in the Premier League as well. Other than Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have also been linked with Lingard in recent times.

Lingard is still just 29 years of age, and thus, this might be his last chance to complete a big move. Thus, he needs to take his next step very carefully.
