Newcastle United must have been delighted with their 1-0 victory over Wolves at St James’ Park. Not only was it a win against a tough side, who are sitting at 8th in the Premier League right now, but it was also a big result in the race to stay up in the Premier League. The Magpies now have 34 points on the board and that might potentially be enough to ensure that they are safe from the drop. Only time shall tell.

Ultimately, it was Chris Wood, who sealed all three points for Newcastle United, by converting from the spot against Wolves. But there was another player who deserves special mention for his performance against Bruno Lage’s side.

The player in question was Bruno Guimaraes, who was nothing short of superb. He has been in the adjustment period since coming in but the Brazilian showed exactly what he is capable of, with his performance against Wolves.

Not only did Guimaraes impress the Newcastle United fans. But he appears to have impressed Alan Shearer as well. As reported by Optus Sport, the club legend said about the midfielder:

"“I thought he was the best player on the pitch, he was man of the match.“He looked quality, comfortable, confident in everything he did; he wants to get on the ball in tight situations and he tried to make Newcastle tick.“He was the one who added that little bit of quality, that finesse. When the game was scrappy, he was the one trying to find that tricky, tight pass that makes all the difference.”"

Guimaraes has not played the amount of football that most fans would have expected when the club signed him in the summer. But that does not mean that he is not a player that cannot make a difference in the middle of the park.

On the contrary, it has been more about Eddie Howe not having a lot of scope to tweak with a team that had been one of the most in-form in all of Europe.

But following the performance that Guimaraes put in against Wolves, do not be surprised to see him play a lot more regularly moving forward. Let’s see what the future holds.
