Newcastle United got a huge result at St James’ Park, as a Chris Wood strike from the penalty spot was enough to hand them a 1-0 win over Wolves. It was arguably the biggest win of The Magpies’ season, considering how results have gone elsewhere in recent times. And it is very possible that this might turn out to be the game where Eddie Howe’s side secured safety.

It is worth remembering that Newcastle United were coming into this game having lost the last three straight, against Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Also, their last result was a 5-1 defeat against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur, in what was their worst performance since the turn of the year and by quite some distance. Thus, a few doubts must have started to creep in around St James’ Park.

As a result, the club needed to bounce back and that is exactly what they did, getting all three points against a solid Wolves team, who are sitting at 8th in the Premier League table.

While Newcastle United are still not completely safe from the drop, realistically, they might have already secured their place in next season’s Premier League campaign.

Following the win over Wolves, they are now sitting at 14th in the Premier League table, 10 points above the relegation zone. And they have been in much better form over the past few months, than the majority of the teams in the English top flight.

Thus, The Magpies are in a strong position right now and it would come as a huge surprise if they ended up getting relegated from here on.

At this point of time, it does feel like a race between Everton and Burnley for safety, with just one point separating the two sides.
