One area that Newcastle United appear to be looking to improve in in the upcoming summer transfer window is goalkeeper. That is certainly a bit surprising considering that Martin Dubravka has done a very good job in goal in recent times and has been one of The Magpies’ more consistent players. But that has not stopped the club from being linked with one goalkeeper after another over the past few weeks.

Of course, the links with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Dean Henderson have been the most high profile ones. But they have also been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Robert Sanchez.

Sanchez has been a standout performer for The Seagulls in recent times, but it looks like a move to Newcastle United is not on the cards for him.

As reported by Football Insider, Brighton & Hove Albion have no plans of letting go of Sanchez amid rumours linking him with a move to Newcastle United. It has been believed that The Magpies could make a £20 million move for him, which is far below the valuation that The Seagulls have of their goalkeeper.

Newcastle United handed transfer blow in race to sign Sanchez

It goes without saying that this is a big blow for Newcastle United. Sanchez is a very good goalkeeper and could have been quite an addition to this side. But it looks like Brighton & Hove Albion are determined to keep hold of the 24-year-old Spanish shot-stopper and a move to St James’ Park is not on the cards.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Sanchez has made 30 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion this season across all competitions. The goalkeeper also made his international debut for Spain last year.

Newcastle United have been linked with several goalkeepers other than Sanchez also though and it remains to be seen if they end up strengthening there in the summer.
