Newcastle United have enjoyed a fantastic rise up the table over the course of the past few months. At one point of time, relegation had looked like a certainty for The Magpies but now, it looks like a bit of an improbability. But it would be wrong to already declare them safe though, especially after Burnley’s 3-2 win over Everton opened things up in the bottom half of the table.

As things stand, Newcastle United sit at 15th in the Premier League table, with 31 points from 30 games. On the other hand, Burnley have climbed up to 18th with their win, and are sitting at 24 points from 29 games.

Thus, while still a comfortable gap, some doubts might have started to creep back in at St James’ Park, as they have lost three games on the trot, against Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, with the last of them being a 5-1 defeat.

Things are not going to get any easier for Eddie Howe’s side either, with games against the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and a few other tough teams still to be played.

Of course, the result is a much bigger worry for Everton, who are now just a point above the relegation zone and to some extent, Leeds United as well. But one cannot overlook the fact that there is a possibility that Newcastle United could be dragged back into a relegation battle as well, if they don’t rediscover some form soon.

Howe will know that his side need to bounce back after putting in their worst performance in months in their recent 5-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies’ face Wolves in their next Premier League game. If they can get a win from this one, it would be a massive boost to their chances of staying up in the top flight of English football.
