Newcastle United are said to be eyeing a move for highly rated left-back Aaron Hickey, who has been making plenty of waves in the Serie A this season.

Planning is underway for the summer transfer window, and Newcastle United are expected to be exploring potential targets.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, The Magpies are interested in signing Bologna left-back, Aaron Hickey.

The talented defender is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in the Serie A, and has scored 4 goals in 27 appearances for Bologna this season according to stats from Transfermarkt. He was also rewarded for his impressive performances with a maiden call-up to the senior Scotland squad earlier this month.

Aaron Hickey is attracting the interest of a number of clubs in England including Newcastle United

Aaron Hickey has gone from strength to strength since his surprise decision to join Bologna from Hearts in 2020. He is being eyed by a number of other clubs as well, including AC Milan and Brentford.

Hickey is expected to leave Bologna in the summer. A transfer could cost as much as £20 million, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United pursue a move for him this summer.

Matt Targett is currently Newcastle United’s first-choice left-back. But he is on loan from Aston Villa, and it remains to be seen if the club will sign him on a permanent basis in the summer. Newcastle United will need to pay a transfer fee of around £15 million in order to sign him permanently.

Hickey is primarily a left-back but is also capable of playing as a wing-back in a back five. He is also more than comfortable playing on the opposite flank, as he has done for Bologna on a few occasions this season. The 19-year-old’s versatility could make him a great option for Newcastle United.
