The first thing that Newcastle United need to do now is make sure that they stay up in the Premier League. The club have done a brilliant job of that since the turn of the year and have been one of the most in-form teams in Europe. Thus, while their place in the top flight for next season is still not confirmed, it does feel like they have done enough and just need a little push to get over the line of safety.

After that, they will be expected to make significant additions in the summer transfer window in order to move up the Premier League table over the coming seasons, ultimately competing in both England and Europe.

One player who appears to have caught their attention is FC Porto’s Otavio, who has impressed for his club as well as the Portugal national team recently, both scoring and assisting in their important World Cup qualifier against Turkey.

As reported by A Bola, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Liverpool have Otavio in their sights for next season. The player is believed to have a €60 million release clause.

Newcastle United battle Manchester United and Liverpool for Otavio

Otavio is a versatile midfielder, who has been excellent in recent times. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 12 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions for FC Porto this season.

He turned 27 years of age last month and is entering his prime as a footballer. Thus, someone like Otavio can be an excellent addition for Newcastle United.

The Brazilian-born midfielder has never played in an European league other than Portugal and there will be doubts about whether he can adjust to the Premier League. But neither had his former FC Porto teammate, Luis Diaz, and look at the impact he has made since joining Liverpool in January.
