Despite being one of the biggest clubs in England, Newcastle United had struggled to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League for a long, long time. In fact, they have been relegated twice in recent years, once in the 2008/09 season and then in the 2015/16 season, and a 5th place finish in the 2011/12 campaign is the best that a generation of fans have got to witness.

That could be about to change very soon though, following a change in ownership. We have already seen its effect in January, as The Magpies made significant additions to their squad, when it had looked like they were headed for relegation.

Now, it looks like a top 10 finish might not be out of question for Newcastle United, and they might have some big plans for the future.

As reported by i, Newcastle United and Southampton head a new group of Premier League clubs who are looking to create a multi-club model, which would mirror Manchester City, the most successful club in the country since their own change of ownership in 2008.

Newcastle United’s exciting plans to copy Manchester City model revealed

Manchester City’s City Football Group might have stakes in clubs all around the world but that does not mean that they are the only ones practicing the multi-club model.

In fact, it has become quite popular in recent years and has yielded results for several clubs. Thus, if Newcastle United are able to create such a model, it might be a huge boost to the club and its future prospects of competing with Europe’s biggest teams.

While the primary aim of Newcastle United is moving up the table and eventually competing for titles, it looks like behind the scenes, they might be looking to create a model for sustainable success for years to come.
