Newcastle United star opens up about injury frustration
Newcastle United’s biggest problem right now is probably the lack of a consistent goalscorer. Callum Wilson has been out injured since December of last year, while Chris Wood, who was brought in from Burnley in a £25 million transfer move in January, has failed to hit the ground running for The Magpies. Thus, while Eddie Howe’s side might be in good form right now, they do need someone who can find the back of the net consistently, if that is to be sustainable.
Wilson does have the potential to be that man though. He remains Newcastle United’s top scorer this year despite not having played a game in 2022. And it will be very interesting to see what he can do when playing for an in-form side.
With just 9 Premier League games left to play for Newcastle United, there is not a lot of time left for Wilson to make much of an impact this season. Rumours have suggested that he could potentially be back in the latter half of April.
And Wilson has admitted about his frustrations with having to sit on the sidelines. As reported by Newcastle World, he said on The Footballer’s Football Podcast:
"“It’s frustrating, I want to be playing, I want to be training, I want to be doing all the things a footballer does. I don’t want to be stuck in the gym when everyone is outside, having fun, scoring goals, this and that.“It seems good from the outside but it’s not what it seems. It’s not what you want to be doing.”"
Wilson’s return would be a massive boost for Newcastle United
Wilson returning to the pitch would be a huge boost for Newcastle United but one cannot expect to see the best of him this season.
The game against Crystal Palace on April 20 is believed to be when the English striker could finally make his return to action. If that does happen, Wilson will have six matches this season to show what he is capable of in this new-look Newcastle United side.
Three of those will be against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, respectively. Thus, it is safe to say that the former Bournemouth striker could very well have his work cut out for him.
Of course, that is for the future. The most important thing right now is for him to recover and return to the pitch as soon as possible.
