Newcastle United line up summer bid for Bournemouth star
Newcastle United have already made their fair share of additions to this squad, bringing in several players in the recent January transfer window. And the arrivals have had the desired effect. The Magpies have been one of the most in-form teams in Europe since the turn of the year and while, relegation had once looked like a certainty, it is now an improbability.
Now, Newcastle United are still not completely safe from the drop. But sitting 9 points above the relegation zone with just 9 games to go, one would think that they have enough in the tank to get past the line of safety.
After that, the focus must be on moving considerably up the table and potentially even challenge for European spots next season. Thus, expect the club to make some signings in the summer.
And as reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United are lining up a summer transfer bid for Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly and they are sending scouts to watch all of his matches as they keep a close eye on his development.
Newcastle United lining up summer bid for Bournemouth captain
Interestingly, Bournemouth had signed Kelly when Eddie Howe was the manager of The Cherries and that connection is clearly there.
Kelly is not only a solid centre-back but has proven to be a leader as well, already captaining Bournemouth despite being just 23 years of age.
It is believed that Bournemouth had refused to let Kelly leave in January. It does look like they are set to be promoted to the Premier League this season though as they have a strong hold over the second spot in the Championship table and could even make a run for the title if Fulham slip up.
Someone like Kelly could be a solid signing for Newcastle United. Now, it remains to be seen if they do end up making a move in the summer.
