Newcastle United linked with shock move for Paul Pogba

Newcastle United are being linked with a surprise move for Paul Pogba, who looks set to leave Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer.
Newcastle United appear to be set for a fairly eventful summer transfer window, as they look to take the next step towards developing into a force to be reckoned with. It was reported recently that the Magpies will not look to splash out big money on new signings in the summer.
But as reported by The Sun, rather surprisingly both Newcastle United and Aston Villa are monitoring the situation of Pogba, who will be out of contract at the end of the season. The French international looks set to leave Manchester United when his deal expires, and a number of other clubs have also shown an interest in signing him.
Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have also been linked with a move for Pogba in recent months.
A potential move for Paul Pogba would shake up Newcastle United’s wage structure
The approach Newcastle United took during the January transfer window suggested that they want to build a squad with quality players all over the pitch, rather than shelling out big money on superstar names.
A potential move for Pogba would certainly go against that approach, as he would not only shake up the team’s wage structure but would also limit the amount of money Newcastle can spend to bolster their squad in other areas.
There is no doubt that Pogba is one of the best players in the world when on song. And he would certainly add more quality to the Newcastle United midfield. But the French international has struggled to find consistency since joining Manchester United in 2016.
Plus, signing Pogba would cost the club a fair amount of money, even though he will be available on a free transfer. So it remains to be seen just how much truth there is to this rumour.
