When Miguel Almiron signed for Newcastle United, back in the winter of 2019, he was the most expensive signing in the history of the club. And the Paraguayan international had been absolutely superb during his time at MLS side, Atlanta United. Thus, there were very high expectations surrounding the move. But one has to admit, that it has not gone nearly as well as one would have hoped.

Almiron has never been able to recapture the form that he had shown at Atlanta United. And this season, he has been particularly ineffective.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Almiron has neither scored nor assisted in 24 appearances for Newcastle United, across all competitions.

Thus, it looks like the club are ready to part ways with the Paraguayan and it is not hard to see why. As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United are planning to find Almiron a new club this summer as part of a major overhaul at St James’ Park and a £15 million transfer fee might be enough to secure his signature.

Newcastle United ready to let Almiron leave this summer

Almiron has never quite shown his best during his time at Newcastle United. On top of that, at 28 years of age, he is no longer a youngster.

Thus, a move away from St James’ Park makes sense for both the club and the player at this stage. In fact, The Magpies appear to be ready to suffer a loss in an Almiron exit. He is believed to have cost them a £21 million transfer fee but they are ready to let him leave for a figure around £15 million.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Almiron but it is safe to say that it would be quite a big surprise if he continues to play his football at Newcastle United beyond this season.
