Following the change in ownership, most people would have expected Newcastle United to splash out in transfer windows to guide the team up the Premier League table and eventually start challenging for titles. We saw glimpses of that during the January transfer window when the club brought in several players, and they helped The Magpies move out of the relegation zone.

Thus, there has been speculation that Newcastle United could make an impact in the summer transfer window as well, with the aim of challenging for European qualifying spots.

The reality of the situation could be very different though as it looks like Newcastle United’s transfer budget for the summer could be much lower than some of the figures that have done the rounds in the rumour mill.

As reported by The Telegraph (via The Mag), Newcastle United’s summer transfer budget is very likely to be less than the £90 million that they shelled out in January 2022. The Magpies could look to bring in three or four players, who will not significantly break the current first-team squad wage structure.

Newcastle United look set to take measured transfer approach in the summer

Thus, it looks like Newcastle United are not looking to shake up the Premier League table in just one transfer window.

Instead, it looks like the club will focus on staying within the FFP rules and building up this team over time, rather than looking to go from a team fighting relegation one season to challenging for the Premier League title in the next.

While this might not be the most exciting way of going about things, it might be the most sustainable for The Magpies.

Thus, it will be interesting to see what kind of moves Newcastle United make in the summer and which players they end up bringing to St James’ Park.
