Matt Targett has been an absolute revelation ever since arriving at Newcastle United on loan from Aston Villa in the January transfer window. He has been one of the club’s most consistent players and a huge reason behind their upturn in form this year. As a result, it is safe to say that most fans would be hoping that the left-back remains at the club beyond the end of the season.

But, his future at St James’ Park appears to be pretty much up in the air and recent rumours have even suggested that it is unlikely that he will end up staying at Newcastle United.

That is surprising to say the least considering he has been one of the most consistent players for The Magpies ever since he has joined.

But according to TEAMtalk, recent reports have claimed that Fulham have already made enquiries about Targett. They look set to return to the Premier League next season by gaining promotion from the Championship.

Targett’s Newcastle United future seems uncertain as Fulham make enquiry

Unless Newcastle United have someone in their sights who they believe will be a better signing for them than Targett, it is hard to see why they would not make a permanent move for him. The left-back has been one of the signings of the January transfer window.

Of course, a lot will depend on what the player wants as well as his parent club. On the other hand, would Targett be open to joining Fulham, who have a reputation of going up and down the top two divisions for the past several years?

Let’s see what the future holds for Targett, but till now, no Newcastle United fan can have any complaints about the job that he has done since arriving at St James’ Park. Interestingly, another left-back, Jamal Lewis, is being linked with an exit as well.
