Newcastle United’s first target right now has to be securing their place in next season’s Premier League by avoiding relegation. They have come a long way in that path after an incredible run of form in 2022. At one point of time, The Magpies had looked destined for the drop but now, there is a chance that they might end up finishing in the top half of the table. Let’s see how things unfold.

After that though, the focus will surely shift towards strengthening the squad further in the summer and there are many areas that the club could look to improve in.

One of them appears to be goalkeeper. Martin Dubravka has been one of Newcastle United’s most consistent performers this season but it appears that the club want more competition for the spot between the posts.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have added the name of Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga to their list of goalkeeper targets for the summer.

Newcastle United could make summer move for Chelsea’s Arrizabalaga

The Spaniard is the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the game but has had to face a lot of criticism for his performances during his time at Chelsea.

But he has enjoyed a bit of a resurrection since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea manager and at this point of time, he looks like a top quality goalkeeper whenever he gets the chance to play.

Chelsea do already have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world in their ranks though in the form of Edouard Mendy. Thus, a summer exit cannot be ruled out for him.

While Arrizabalaga did not look ready for Premier League football when he first arrived, right now, it looks like he is more than ready to make his mark at a top club. Thus, if Newcastle United do end up signing him, it could be a major coup on their part.
