This summer is set to be a big one for Newcastle United and they are expected to make a splash in the transfer market. Thus, it is only natural that the club have been linked with several top players in recent weeks and months. But even then, not many fans would have seen the rumours surrounding Neymar coming. Does it make sense to make a blockbuster move for the Brazilian though?

Like in everything, there are pros and cons to Newcastle United making a move for Neymar as well. And it all depends on what they are looking to get out of the deal.

There is no question about Neymar’s talent. On his day, he is still one of the best in the world. And one cannot overlook the fact that he is an absolute global superstar, who remains the third biggest name in the game behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Thus, any move would help Newcastle United’s brand immensely.

But at the same time, it would be a mistake to overlook all of the negatives that could be involved with making a move for the Brazilian.

Should Newcastle United make a move for Neymar?

First of all, it is expected to take a huge transfer fee to bring Neymar to Newcastle United. The last time he switched clubs, Paris Saint-Germain had to shell out a world record €222 million to sign him from Barcelona.

Also, he is 30 years of age now and could very well be on the decline. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists in 20 appearances this season.

One cannot overlook his injury history either. Would he be able to cope with the physicality of the Premier League? And then, there are the questions about his attitude.

All things considered, while a move for Neymar would grab a lot of headlines, it does feel like at this stage, it would be better for Newcastle United to look elsewhere.
