Eddie Howe wants Newcastle United to sign Everton star
Newcastle United are still not safe from the drop but their incredible form since the turn of the year has meant that they are not far from crossing the line of safety either. One or two more wins could very possibly be all they need to stay up in the Premier League and after that, it is safe to say that the club will have big targets. They might even aim to finish in a European qualifying spot next season.
Thus, one can expect the club to make several more additions to their squad all over the pitch. And it looks like defence could be the focus once again.
In January, the club made three additions at the back, Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion, Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa. And now, it looks like they have Everton’s Ben Godfrey in their sights.
As reported by the Mirror, Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in Godfrey and Eddie Howe is a big fan of the England international.
Newcastle United have an eye on Everton’s Godfrey
Everton signed Godfrey in the summer of 2020 from Norwich City for a transfer fee around £25 million. And since then, he has impressed.
Godfrey has great versatility and very good potential. But if Everton end up getting relegated, which is not out of the realms of possibility at all, it is hard to see them being able to hold on to the England international.
Newcastle United are believed to have tried to sign Godfrey in January itself but were not successful back then. But it is very possible, that they could make another attempt to sign the defender in the summer.
If The Magpies are able to sign the Everton star, he has the potential to be an excellent addition to Howe’s side.
