Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson gives injury return update
One major weakness that Newcastle United have right now is that they do not have a consistent goal scorer in their team. Callum Wilson has been out of action for months and yet, he still remains the club’s top goal scorer for the season. Chris Wood was signed from Burnley for a transfer fee believed to be around £25 million in January but it is safe to say that he has not been prolific in front of goal.
Newcastle United have done tremendously well despite that though and have been one of the most in-form teams in all of Europe this year.
Once looking like a side nailed on for relegation, now they appear to be genuine contenders to finish the season in the Premier League top ten. But at the same time, they have not guaranteed themselves safety yet either.
Thus, Newcastle United could do with Wilson back available as soon as possible and he has given an update on his current situation. As reported by Newcastle World, while speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, the striker said:
"“(I am) getting there slowly, making good progress.“(I) should be out on the pitches very soon, which will be good and that way, you know you are very close to a return.“(I) can’t really give a firm update as to when I’ll be back because I still don’t know.”"
Newcastle United handed boost as Wilson appears to be closing in on return
Wilson returning would be a boost for Newcastle United without a doubt. He had a decent scoring return before he got injured in December against Manchester United and that was while playing for a team that was struggling.
Thus, it will be very interesting to see what the English striker can do playing for a team that has one of the best records in Europe since the turn of the year.
While Wilson is making progress, it does look like there is some way to go though before he can make his return to first-team action. Let’s just hope we get to see him in a Newcastle United jersey before the end of the season.
