Newcastle United did a very good job in January when it comes to making signings and strengthening their squad. It had a direct impact on their rise up the Premier League table. Once, it had looked like Eddie Howe’s side were bound to get relegated. But now, despite their recent defeats against Chelsea and Everton, The Magpies are one of the most in-form teams in Europe and contenders to finish in the top 10.

Right now, it does very much look like Newcastle United have avoided relegation. And their next target must be to build a team in the summer that can challenge for a European qualification spot.

Thus, do not be surprised if The Magpies make some big signings in the summer and they appear to have their eyes on AS Roma’s Jordan Veretout.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via TEAMtalk), the €20 million midfielder is wanted above all by Newcastle United. AC Milan also hold an interest in the AS Roma star though.

Newcastle United leading race to sign AS Roma’s Veretout

Veretout had started the season as a regular in AS Roma’s starting XI and his stats are promising as well, but in recent times, he has struggled to get into Jose Mourinho’s team, mostly having to do with appearances off the bench.

Thus, it would not be a huge surprise if he looks for an exit in the summer, if the situation does not change for the midfielder at AS Roma. And if he was to leave, there does not look to be any lack of suitors for the French international.

Someone like Veretout can be an excellent addition to Newcastle United’s midfield. At 29 years of age, he has plenty of experience under his belt but at the same time, he is still in his prime as a footballer.
