Newcastle United’s momentum has suffered a double blow. First, it was the 1-0 defeat away at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, when a couple of calls went against Eddie Howe’s side. Then, they lost 1-0 against Everton as well, with Alex Iwobi scoring the winner in the 99th minute of the game. Thus, it is too early to panic, but if The Magpies don’t get a positive result over the next few matches, doubts might start to creep back in.

Unfortunately for them, the fixture list is not going to get any easier. They face Tottenham Hotspur next, who are chasing a top four spot. Then they have three difficult games against Wolves, Leicester City and Crystal Palace, all currently ahead of Newcastle United in the Premier League table.

On top of that, Newcastle United have their fair share of injury problems as well. And one player who has been struggling with a calf problem for a while is Allan Saint-Maximin.

He did not start against Everton and judging from Howe’s comments, is still quite some distance away from full fitness. As reported by The Shields Gazette, the Newcastle United manager said:

"“Maxi wasn’t close to starting.“He’s had two training sessions in four weeks, and when you have an intense spell of games like we have had, it’s very difficult to get that load into him.“The trouble is if you start him without the base, there’s a high chance he gets injured.”"

Howe’s Saint-Maximin update is a worry for Newcastle United

Saint-Maximin has not been very impressive in his recent performances but then, one has to remember that he is not at peak fitness at the moment.

We all know what he is capable of at the top of his game and even though he is not the most consistent player right now, he is still just 25 years of age and has plenty of time to develop further, before he hits his prime as a footballer.

Thus, Newcastle United will be hoping to have Saint-Maximin back in the mix of things as soon as possible with some huge games coming up. The French winger has the ability to make things happen out of almost nothing. Not many other players do.
