Newcastle United could be handed transfer blow by AC Milan
Newcastle United made quite an impact in the January transfer window by splashing out and it has certainly made a difference. The Magpies have been one of the most in-form teams in Europe since then, and could potentially even make a run for a top 10 finish in the Premier League. Even a few months ago that would have been unthinkable when Eddie Howe’s side were fighting to be staying up in the English top flight.
That’s how quickly things can change in football. And Newcastle United now look almost certain to remain in the Premier League.
Their next target must be to challenge for a European spot and for that to happen, they must continue to strengthen their squad.
One player that Newcastle United have been heavily linked with in recent times is Sven Botman. But the Lille centre-back is believed to be a target of AC Milan as well. And as reported by GiveMeSport, journalist Pete O’Rourke said:
"“Milan are a massive club. They have been following Sven Botman for a long time and the trump card they’ve got over Newcastle is it looks like they will probably be able to offer Champions League football next season.“That might just be the deciding factor in their pursuit of the Dutch international.”"
Could Newcastle United be handed Botman transfer blow by AC Milan?
Botman has been a standout for Lille in recent times and played a big part in their Ligue 1 winning side last season.
Also, he is just 22 years of age and would be expected to get better as a centre-back as he gains more top level experience. Thus, if he was to leave Lille anytime in the near future, there is expected to be a lot of interest in his signature and Newcastle United could have a tough time trying to sign him.
AC Milan are a massive club without a shadow of a doubt and are competing for the Serie A title this season. They are expected to be able to offer Botman the chance to play in the Champions League as well.
Newcastle United would be expected to rise up to that level eventually but that might potentially take a couple of years.
