Despite their recent defeat at the hands of Chelsea, Newcastle United are a team that are flying high at the moment and should be confident of their chances of staying up in the Premier League. The club splashed out in the January transfer window and it has had a better effect than anybody could have hoped for. The Magpies have been one of the best teams in Europe since the turn of the year.

Eddie Howe and the players deserve a lot of credit for that. And while they once looked almost certain to be relegated, now it would not be a surprise if they end up finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League.

That’s how quickly things can change in football. It is a game of momentum. And Newcastle United must make sure though that the recent defeat at the hands of Chelsea does not end up having a huge effect on theirs.

As a result, the upcoming game against Frank Lampard’s Everton is very important for them, with the Merseyside club firmly in the middle of a relegation battle right now. Howe has confirmed a double injury doubt for The Magpies heading into the game though. As reported by Chronicle Live, he said:

"“Jonjo Shelvey we are waiting to see, he hasn’t trained yet he’s a slightly bigger concern. Joelinton is going to be touch and go.”"

While Newcastle United have their fair share of injury worries, they have to be considered the favourites against Everton.

Everton appear to have improved a bit under the management of Lampard, but even then, the results have not come for them. And if they lose this game, they would be in even bigger trouble than they are already in.

While Everton might have played fewer games, both Watford and Burnley appear to be in better form than them. Thus, things could get very interesting.

On the other hand, when it comes to Newcastle United, they look safe following an incredible run of form.
