Newcastle United find themselves in a great position right now. Not too long ago, it had looked almost certain that The Magpies would be caught in a relegation battle this season. But following the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager and a solid January transfer window, the club have raced up the Premier League table and now, a top 10 finish looks very much like a possibility and a drop to the Championship an improbability.

On the other hand, Everton have found themselves heading in the opposite direction and are very much in a relegation battle at the moment with the likes of Norwich City, Watford, Burnley and Leeds United.

Everton have shown signs of improvement in certain areas following the arrival of Frank Lampard as manager but overall, they have continued to disappoint.

And it looks like they could very well be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin in their upcoming game against Newcastle United, which is even more important for The Toffees than The Magpies right now. As reported by Liverpool Echo, Lampard said:

"“Dom trained lightly yesterday (Tuesday) on the back of not feeling great. We’ll see how he is this afternoon and then look toward the squad for tomorrow.”"

Calvert-Lewin could be out against Newcastle United

This will surely be a huge blow for Everton and their chances against an in-form Newcastle United, who were already the heavy favourites heading into the game.

One can trace back the start of Everton’s problems this season to Calvert-Lewin suffering an injury, after he had scored 3 goals in the first 3 Premier League games of the campaign.

Thus, it is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Everton. On the other hand, Newcastle United must be looking to get back to winning ways as well, having lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

While a trip to Goodison Park would have normally been considered as a huge test for Newcastle United, right now, they must be very confident of their chances.
